Lion Country Safari
A 'zoo' of a different sort, Lion Country Safari, is actively involved in the breeding and conservation of endangered or threatened African species through it's captive breeding program. People are 'caged' in this zoo in vehicles which permit a safari like tour to view the animals in their respective habitats. White Rhino's, chimpanzees, African Elephants and other species are available for viewing. This establishment is also a licensed rehabilitation facility offering care to injured wildlife and releasing back to the wild where possible.

The Riverwalk is a waterfront park in the middle of downtown Fort Lauderdale. The lavishly landscaped park is lined with shops, restaurants and attractions. The path spans approximately one mile, beginning at the Stranahan House and extending to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

The Gulf Specimen Marine Laboratory, recently opened to the public, focuses on smaller forms of aquatic life such as seahorses, hermit crabs, red and white spotted calico crabs and electric rays. White the laboratory focues on invertebrates those anxious to see somewhat larger species will not be disapointed. Small sharks,stingrays and turtles are also on display.

Vehicle traffic is restricted in this park 1-1/2 hours before the park closes to facilitate walking, biking or rollerblading around the 2 mile paved loop road. Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is located in urban Fort Lauderdale, and offers a natural haven within the city limits.
